When the Arcean economic recession of the 6th turn hit, it brought with it a lot of unfortunate changes. One of these was the shuttering of many "micro-villages" that had sprung up around Arcea. Wealthy new entrepreneurs that had capitalized on the lifting of the trade embargo with Illaminamo had taken to creating villages and towns for their friends, family and employees, oftentimes also offering up rentals for smaller shopkeepers or business partners.
In 6th turn, when the price of these goods burst and the value of the Arcean coin went down, many of these villages were forced to close down and all citizens relocated, usually to Arceliaze.
Now, the Arcean countryside is littered with the bodies of such settlements, abandoned and overgrown from almost 6 decades of neglect. Some of the land was re-acquired by the Conduicy for military outposts, but the rest have been left to rot.
However, there's one village that managed to weather the storm long enough to attract fresh new industry: the village of Steeljag, nestled by the beautiful Steeljag Bluff. It managed to scrape by with a steel mill, the ownership of the village changing hands until coming into ownership of a wealthy upstart who established the Steeljag Money Market Trading company, a subsidiary of Santurini Financial. The steel mill is under ownership of Merrikus Smelting & Refinery, a distant subsidiary of Garrius Molaene Holdings and Investments.
It is through this combination of industries that the little village has managed to survive. The Merrikus Steel Mill is well-liked for its frequent hiring of Arcean workers, high pay and benefits. It's considered within the top 20 bracket for steel mills in Arcea, which is a trademark of Garrikus Molaene.
Recently, a branch of the Cross-Country Runners Arcea holdings company opened in Steeljag, bringing quick shipping to and from Arceliaze. They're primarily focused on transporting steel, tools and rented vehicles, and bringing similar goods from the capital.
However, if you see a black tarp covering a wagon as it pulls in from Arceliaze...well, best not to ask about that.
The entire Arceali Guild was brought to the village of Steeljag briefly to see the army support they'd get on their mission. They were shuffled along quickly, though, to Ember Summit, for the final showdown of the Pearls Crisis.
