ROCKY HILLS
In the middle of Tulaan lies the longest mountain range of the continent, spanning from northern Tulaan all the way to just south of the center of the continent. The Rocky Hills are almost 5 million years old and have served as the natural border splitting the three countries since the dawn of civilization on the continent. The mountain range is jagged and barren and extremely challenging to traverse, hence the difficulty in moving between countries. Only a thousand years ago was a narrow pass found to allow travel between Illaminamo and Arcea, beside which lies the town of Souljraan. Along with this, the mountain range sports a number of underground rivers, springs and caves running throughout.
The Rocky hills have long served as the greatest obstacle to war and peace in Tulaan. Its difficulty to cross prevents both armies crossing and slows immigration to a crawl. The treks to circumvent these mountains either on the north shore or southern forests in Quayoff are long and arduous. For this reason, most major shipments to and from Illaminamo go by boat along the northern coastline while travel along the Rocky Hills pass is for tourists, immigrants and small goods and postal shipments by carriage.
The terrain of the mountains is rocky and arid, unsuitable for farming, but their high peak size has left both the east and western valleys with plenty of rain. Rain on the rocky hills runs off into the valley, carrying nutrients to fertilize the valleys on both sides of the border. However, in the last 14 years the rain seems to stall and only fall on the Arcean side, leading to massive droughts in Illaminamo which has led to governmental shattering and a mass exodus from 'The Dead Country'.
Many of the underground rivers flowing through the caves carry water from northern rain and snow melting from Dragon's Peak and Windscorch Mountain. The rivers in Rocky Hills carry the water down all the way to the jungles of Quayoff with some extra runoff spilling into the Shallow Marsh and eventually the southern River Delta.
Folk lore regarding the Rocky Hills mainly tells the tale of Arceus creating the mountains as a grand wall to divide the countries and Poke'mon so they would have a definitive border to define their space. Each country gives a spin on the tale; Illaminians say the Rocky Hills were to keep them safe from danger, Arceans sometimes say the Rocky Hills were lifted to stop barbaric warlords while Quayoffi Poke'mon maintain that the Rocky Hills were an act to stifle war.
Team Azure were tasked with entering the Rocky Hills to dispel members of the Thieves guild that were attacking Illaminians crossing the narrow pass, preventing them from entering Arcea,
