26,890 years ago when the Kessi Empire was fully broken up into individual kingdoms, some villages were left uninformed of the upheaval. Across the eastern coast, there were a number of settlements that spent decades or even centuries completely unaware that their empire had fallen, their only clue being that the tribute collectors stopped showing up.
In time, many of these villages were discovered and annexed by Arcea as it solidified its control over the Tulaani north east. However, one region Arcea was reluctant to spend resources into exploring was the southern region of the Lightning Wastes
The Kessi capital of central Lightning Wastes was in the worst state from the empire's system collapse, ransacked by Arcean armies and abandoned by nobles moving toward greener pastures. By the time the east coast was fully annexed, the old Kessi capital was left to rot and most of its vassal villages dismantled with the citizens relocated away from the desolate land. All except for one, a settlement in south Lightning Wastes, the original name of which has been long lost to time.
This village remained self-sufficient for several thousand years , unaware of the events going on elsewhere in Tulaan. It wasn't until a little after the first war of Arcea that Qease was discovered by explorers and historical researchers looking into the old Kessi ruins. Qease was found to have renamed itself after having discovered the old Kessi ruins some few thousand years ago, keeping the old religion of Thundurus alive all this time. Although Arcea considers the territory annexed, the Conduicy does not officially interact with Qease and the village has been declared a historical preservation region. No collections on the villagers take place for this reason, though Qease villagers still have access to submit guild requests. However, the village master tends to be the only one that actually does this, as the villagers remain secluded from the rest of Arcea as a modern-day Kessian village still alive and well thousands of years later.
The Adventure for the Lightning Pearl began with Lahnae wanting to return to Qease to make good on her promise to expel the Treasure Guild invaders that were uprooting the Kessi ruins and turning the locals into unwilling workers.
